POEMS by Jamal Barber
Here I am
Where the Grey Squirrels roam
And the Cardinals sing loud and true
Where the Channel Bass bite to our delight
And the Plott Hounds run brave and free
Where the Scotch Bonnets sit in the sun warmed sand
And the Eastern Box Turtle sits in his shell
Where the Channel Bass
Splash!
Splash in the Neuse River
Along New Bern’s shore
My land and yours
Peace!!
Peace
As I lay here that is all I feel
the birds singing in the sky
the wind gently blowing, blowing, blowing
Peace
The grass blades whistle
the ants go marching by
where they go no one knows
but underground is the best answer you'll get
Peace
This is my home
This is my town
