[ The Mumfest ] by [ Dalton]
Legs aching, spine tingling, heart racing,
It was all worth it I thought...
Weaving through the crowds
Determined to reach the smell of white powdered funnel cakes
And steaming hot chili cheese fries.
Getting to the sound of the BMX crowd roaring
And laughter of the comedian's audience,
But then lost in the delicate art of advertisement,
The site of sunglasses and hot tubs on display,
Taunting me one after the other,
Wishing I could buy each and every object,
But then noticing I got distracted,
And have been separated from everyone,
Somehow ending up just where I wanted to,
The sight of streets filled with amazing rides,
The stands with layers upon layers of mouth watering food,
All of these drifting in out of my consciousness,
Waiting to be discovered and experienced,
Now, this here my friend is called the Mumfest,
It was definitely worth it I thought.

This poem and everything that it represents means a lot to me. There's just something
special about the Mumfest that I feel really gets me in tact with myself and
Craven County as a whole. It brings the whole county together, gives chances for
advertisement, and the businesses and organizations reflect off of its
community. So as you can see there is much more to it than just eating amazing
tasting food and looking at advertising for products. It’s really about who is
cooking the food and who is setting up those advertisements for people. Those
are the people and places that make Craven County Craven County and when
everyone experiences those things it really gets people more aware and thankful
of Craven County's local community.
So that's basically what I would like to do. I want people to know how
important it is to the countie's people and businesses that we have this. You
can't always get your word out successfully around the county if you can't
attract people to it. And that's exactly what the Mumfest does; it has all of
these really cool shows and things of that such that get people's attention.
It’s giving people chances to get all kinds of people interested in their
business and things of that such. But also giving people who like performing
dances or comedic acts chances to get the word out about them so it’s like
knocking out two birds with one stone, its perfect. So just think how this could
change many people's lives and how our local community is constructed if it
didn’t occur every year.
