Top 3 by Kierra
Craven County, North Carolina is a great place to grow up. I was born here in Craven, and have lived in Vanceboro all my life. Most of my family lives in Craven county as well. There are a variety of things to do all throughout New Bern. Craven has a few big places and a lot of small places but who knew that the small places are always the best. My top three Places to go are The Courthouse, Accidental Artist, and Target!
The reason I chose the courthouse is because I am a volunteer attorney there. I am apart of Craven County teen court and I love it! Teen court is just like regular court except it is from the ages Seven - Eighteen . So lets say a fourteen year old male gets in a fight at school and the school presses charges on him. Instead of him having to pay to hire an attorney, and have it put on his record he gets referred to Teen court. But he MUST admit that he is guilty. Then after he admits it and he has talked to the President of Teen Court. He will be scheduled a court date, where he will be set up with first chair and second chair volunteer attorneys. The only difference from teen court and regular court is your attorney, bailiff, and clerk are in the grades of sixth - twelfth also jury members are in those grade levels. When they sentence you to community services and jury duty you are done. Nothing gets put on your record and your clear. I find the courthouse to be a very interesting sometimes. I love going there every time I get summoned I know its going to be a good night!
Target, You may ask why in the world is Target her favorite place? Why would she include this? Well I LOVE LOVE LOVE target! Anything and EVERYTHING you need is there! Let’s say you are sitting at home watching Duck Dynasty and you realize you have NO popcorn!??!?!? You’re freaking out because you need popcorn, if you don’t have popcorn you won’t be able to enjoy the show as much, you won’t get the full experience. SO you are freaking out and wondering where to go, while driving you see a big target sign and you run a red light to turn into the parking lot! You go into target and you feel like you’re in heaven, you’re wondering where the popcorn aisle is, so you ask a target employee who is the nicest lady/man ever! As they are taking you to the popcorn aisle you see this BIG flat screen (60”) on sale for $1,099 and you’re thinking if I buy it now I can go home and hook it up to watch Duck Dynasty on this bad boy! So you put it in the cart. When you are done with the tv you then start heading towards the food aisle and you see this pretty purple couch that is only $43.99 and you think “That would look great in my living room and I can sit in it while I watch Duck Dynasty.’ Then you put it in your cart. Now you are two aisles away from the popcorn aisle, But then you walk back and see this shiny purple pillow and blanket set. You put it in your cart and finally make it to the popcorn aisle you get your popcorn and head up to check out. Your total came up to $1,168.32!! Money well spent you got a new tv, pillow and blanket set,a purple couch and POPCORN! Load everything into the truck and set it up when you get home! Now you are in your living room sitting on your purple couch watching Duck Dynasty on your new 60’ flat screen! Exciting right?!? That is what happens to me when I go to Target at least.
My other favorite place to go is Accidental Artist. I have NO artistic skills whatsoever! I can’t draw to save my life! Honestly I was afraid to go to accidental artist at first. I thought that I was just going to screw up my entire artwork (Because I thought you had to draw what you were going to paint!) I was thinking “Oh lord why did you bring me here?! I can’t draw! This is going to come out a total FAILURE!” I walk in and see unpainted pottery all over the wall. At first I was like “hmmmmm, well if we have to make pottery all they’ll get out of me is a thumb bowl that I barely learned how to make in 4th grade.” but then common sense hit me and I realized that we could paint and design the pottery ourselves. Then I was calm and less freaked. I’m walking around and I saw this square plate I thought it was the prettiest/coolest thing ever. I imagined all the things that I could design onto it, I picked up the plate and started flipping through ideabooks and found this Chevron idea where it has chevron lines and then a circle in the middle for my initials in a really pretty font. So I traced the lines onto my plate then traced my initials and started painting! It was so much fun! It really does accidentally bring out your inner artist. It is a great family business too.
Well those were my top three favorite places. Now that you have read about them, my 3 things were super cool and fun imagine what other peoples may be. There are many places to go in craven county, we all have different interest. You may not like to blow through money at Target, or you may HATE courtrooms, you may even be allergic to paint. But in Craven County I know for a fact that you will find something that you’ll love. There are plenty of places for you to go and do what you want, If you want to relax then you’ll find a place, If you want family time Craven is full of parks! You just have to look for what you want to do.
