"What I Love About New Bern, North Carolina" by Alexis
Downtown New Bern, North Carolina inspires me. Downtown is very artistic and colorful. I love all of the fun shops and restaurants. In the background of this slide is "Art Square", which I like to call it.Here is where beautiful sculptures are placed. This is also one of my favorite sculptures. This is a photo of the
sculpture that is being featured for the months of January through May of 2013.

This is one of my most favorite locations Downtown. "It is The Civic Theatre where
many amazing plays have been performed such as The Wizard of Oz and Dream Girls."

This is perhaps one of my favorite places downtown. It is Carolina Creations. Here they have jewlery, sculptures,
paintings, and a lot more that is hand made by local artist and for sale.
Among the many restauraunts
is Morgan's Tavern and Grill which features a menu of anything you could want. One of the many thing I love about Downtown New Bern, are all the little restauraunts who are privately owned and only local.
Here in New Bern we are quite proud of Pepsi Cola originally called Brad's drink was invented here in New Bern
in 1893. This inspires me to strive for excellence and believe that I can do anything I put my mind, heart, and soul into.

Located Downtown is also the Sudan Shriner Temple. I featured them because it is an amazing organization that raises money for children's hospitals which really inspires me to want to help others.
Along the river is Union Point Park which features a gazibo, swing set, a stage for
shows and bands and much more.
Accidental Artist is a place where aspiring painters and sculptures can practice painitng and designing their own pottery. I chose this place because it really shows the artistic side of Downtown New Bern.
This is one of the only art museums in New Bern called Bank of the Arts. Here, they feature art chosen by teachers at elementary school and from the Community College.
The following mural titled, "Past, Present, and Future" painted by Dominican Republic mural artist Hector Blanco and a few of his fellow artist friends depicts a scene from today of the river, a street scene from the past, and a picture of two clasped hands.
The Farmers Market is
another way for artistic and creative
people to show their talent by making candles, clothing, jams, cookies, wood carvings, soaps, and your everyday yard sale items and plenty of arts and crafts to take part in.

My name is Alexis Meyers and I have lived in New Bern, North Carolina since 2004. I moved here from
the big city life of Chesapeake, Virginia. Though Virginia has a beach, fun places to hangout, and a lot more
people, I love New Bern so much more. One of the most inspiring aspects of New Bern, in my opinion, is the art.
I am drawn especially to our little downtown in New Bern, North Carolina. I chose downtown for the overall
location of my piece because of the history, art, unique places, and the river. Everything about downtown is
relaxing and artistic!
When people asks me where I love to spend my time, downtown is always my reply. I am time and
time again inspired by places such as Accidental Artist, Bank of the Arts, Carolina Creations, and Art Square
especially. When I lived in Virginia, there wasn’t a lot of artistic places such as these that I can remember. It was
more of a beachy getaway filled with tourist traps, beach shops, and a few big malls. New Bern is very unique
and my photos define New Bern perfectly in my opinion. New Bern is also a very historic town which features
many historic buildings, the largest, Tryon Palace. Historic value is another big part of Downtown New Bern.
Here in New Bern Pepsi Cola was invented.
Being the very artistic person I am, makes New Bern, NC the perfect place for me to live. The river
definitely makes up for the loss of the beach. I love New Bern, and every once in a while think about moving
back to Virginia, to be able to go to the beach again eveyday day during the summer, but I know that New Bern
is my home and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
