My Home by Alesha
There are many things that make Craven County unique. I chose three places that show what craven county is to me. These places have history and memories.
The first place that makes Craven County itself is Tryon Palace. Tryon Palace is the second most visited historical site in North Carolina, right after the Biltmore Estate. Tryon Palace was originally built for the first governor of New Bern. I think this place makes Craven County what it is because of all the history it holds. All of the secrets and memories that can be told by Tryon Palace are a part of Craven County. Tryon Palace can't be found anywhere else and this makes Craven County unique. I took a field trip to Tryon Palace in fourth grade. I was amazed by all the things I learned about New Bern while visiting. This is one factor of what Craven County really is.
My next place is the Pepsi Store in Downtown New Bern. The Pepsi Store reminds us that Craven County is special. Craven County, specifically New Bern, is the birthplace of Pepsi. Pepsi, one of the worlds most famous soft drinks, was created right here in Craven County. That's a bit of our history that I will never forget and will always be proud of. I remember, one time we had just finished eating lunch downtown and I begged my mom to take me to the Pepsi Store. I forgot that I was wearing my Coca-Cola shirt that day and it was funny to see the looks on the people's faces when I ordered some orange soda. I will never forget that day.
The last place I think makes Craven County what it is, is my school, Craven Early College. It's a great program that can't be found in many places. It allows us to get our high school credits, as well as our college credits at the same time. This way, we graduate with a diploma and an associates degree. I think this school is really cool and a great opportunity to get ahead in life. It may seem ordinary or you may say "It's just one year earlier than everyone else.", but I say it will make a huge difference. It allows us to go out into the world with a better education than most people and we can make a difference. We may not change the world all at once, but we can start by changing our community. Then to our county. Later we can work with the state and maybe we could influence neighboring states. This pattern can only grow and get bigger until we impact the world. As a whole, I think we could do it. This school makes a huge difference in Craven County whether you realize it or not. Whether you accept it or not, Craven County is unique and special, and I'm glad to call it my home.

The piece being showcased is called Fam(ILY). I chose to add the writing about what Craven County is to me because it was honestly my inspiration to creating my collage. I wrote the paper on the subject of "home" and what was home to me and the things that make my home what it is but I got to thinking about it a little more. I came to ask myself, "Why am I so proud to call this place my home? What makes it really feel like home?" I came to the conclusion, Craven County is one huge family. It feels like you have a big family and
